McCartney's Journeys Purpose

The purpose of submitting genealogical information to McCartney's Journeys in Genealogy is to have that data posted on the site. This means that the data will be available to anyone visiting the site. Postings of this type are done in the hope that others researching the same or similar McCartney lines can contact the posting researcher to possibly exchange information.

Posting the information does put it in public view and care should be taken concerning what data is published. Please, read the suggestions below carefully. McCartney's Journeys will post what you send. It is your responsibility to be sure it is safe.

By submitting your data, you are consenting to posting it with your name and email address.

How We Use Your Data

McCartney’s Journeys appreciates and respects your privacy. The information you submit for posting on the site will only be used for that posting. It will not in any way be distributed to any third party. Nor will your email address be distributed to any group, commercial or otherwise. When used on the site it will be coded so that spider programs will not be able to retrieve it.

However, the posting will be available to anyone who visits the McCartney’s Journeys website. Since your data will be made public on the website, the criteria below contain not only the procedure for posting, but suggestions for keeping your data safe. Please read them carefully.

How to Post Data on McCartney's Journeys

  • Age Requirement:
  • You must be at least 18 years old to submit data. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) requires an age limit of 13 for submitting data to websites, but we will not accept postings from anyone under 18.

  • Researcher's Information:
  • Supply only your name, email address and year of birth. Only your name and email address will be posted with your query. We need your birth year to verify that we are in compliance with COPPA. No other information about the researcher is necessary.

  • Methods of Posting:
  • Please check the accuracy of your data before submitting it. You may post your information in one of three ways:
    • Use the form on the website.
    • Type everything into an email to the webmaster.
    • Send an email to the webmaster with a Microsoft Word document or a plain-text document attached.

  • Preserve Privacy:
  • Do not supply genealogical information for any person currently living or who has died within the past 25 years. Since credit card companies love to use your mother's maiden name as a form of identification, do not supply the name if you have used it in that way even if she passed away long ago.

  • Use Discretion:
  • Post generations of your research from the earliest you know and their descendants up to your grandparents if they are not living or post only those portions that you decide to make public. Naturally, the more you post the better chance that someone will make a connection. However, discretion should be used. Do not supply data you feel would be embarrassing to anyone or should not be made public for any other reason.

  • Use a Free E-mail Account:
  • Email addresses, though legible on the web page, are coded in such manner as to prevent web spiders from retrieving them. This is done to prevent improper use of your email address and to hopefully reduce, in a small way, the amount of spam in the web. Although we take every precaution to protect the email address you post, you might want to consider posting a free email account address, such as Yahoo, Hotmail or G-Mail, rather than your primary address.

  • Verify Any Contacts:
  • If you should receive a contact from your posting, do not indiscriminately exchange information. Verify that the person contacting you really is interested in your genealogical information and is not fishing for more pertinent personal data.

  • Review Your Posting:
  • Once your data is received by the webmaster, it will be coded into a web page. The webmaster may format the data for presentation purposes but will not add or delete any information. After everything is coded and the page has been moved to the server, you will receive an email with the URL of your posting. You should read the posting as soon as possible. If there are any corrections or additions, email the webmaster. You own the posting. It is your responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the data.

Cookies and Tracking

McCartney's Journeys website does not use cookies or tracking devices of any kind. We are interested only in any genealogical information you wish to post, not in your internet surfing habits.
